To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Hong Kong Palace Museum announced on the 21st that it will launch a special exhibition on the origins of Chinese civilization from September 25, 2024 to February 7, 2025.
According to reports, the special exhibition will be divided into three units, showing the historical context of the origin, formation and development of Chinese civilization. The nearly 110 exhibits on display come from 14 cultural and museum institutions in many provinces in the mainland and Hong Kong. Among the exhibits, 16 are national first-class cultural relics, and most of the cultural relics are exhibited in Hong Kong for the first time.
In addition, the Chinese Civilization Origins Exhibition will feature a number of multimedia installations to provide an immersive experience for visitors. The Hong Kong Palace Museum will also host educational activities such as parent-child archaeological workshops to allow participants to understand the various aspects of archaeological work and gain a deeper understanding of the rich cultural connotations of Chinese civilization.
The Chinese Civilization Origin Exhibition is the second exhibition in the "Chinese Civilization" series of the Hong Kong Palace Museum. The museum held a special exhibition "Gazing at Sanxingdui-New Archaeological Discoveries in Sichuan" in late 2023, mainly exhibiting 120 precious cultural relics such as bronze, jade, gold and pottery.
