As he spoke, Rodrigues said the opening of the BYD plant in Bahia is not only a sign of industrial development, but also a new chapter in Brazil's cooperation with China. "We are ready to welcome a greener, more innovative Brazil. This plant will boost local economic development, generate jobs, and serve as a model for technological transformation," he said.
Li Ke, executive vice president of BYD, said at the ceremony that as one of the companies with the highest global R&D investment, BYD is bringing cutting-edge technology to Brazil. "From groundbreaking to the first vehicle rolling off the production line, we have only used 15 months. This is a milestone for BYD and a new starting point for sustainable transportation development in Latin America," he said.
In July 2023, BYD announced that it will build a large-scale production base complex consisting of three factories in the city of Kamazari. It is reported that the new energy vehicle assembly line of the base will produce pure electric and plug-in hybrid models.
The data shows that BYD sold more than 20,000 vehicles in Brazil in the first quarter of this year. In May, BYD rose to fourth place in the retail sales ranking of Brazilian car brands, with a market share of 9.7%.
